What is a Native American Shepherd Dog?
The Native American Shepherd (NASD) is a distinctive hybrid breed derived from deliberate mating and carefully selected health and temperament-tested herding breeds. The primary objective is cultivating a highly trainable, emotionally stable, active, and calm ranch dog suitable for domestic relaxation or play with children. Despite its inception in 2002 and being recognized by the National Dog Breed Registry, the program was halted to concentrate on breeding and promoting the Native American Indian Dog. Now that the NAID is established with a DNA registry and working towards UKC status, the NASD breeding program is set to advance in 2024.
The NASD is a breed in development and is available in various colors. This smaller breed is well-suited for rural and urban living, including apartments and condos. The NASD is anticipated to exhibit less vocalization than most herding breeds. It has a manageable medium-length coat, stands approximately 18 inches, and typically weighs between 20 to 25 pounds in adulthood. Acceptable coat colors include black/brindle, sable/silver/ mahogany/silver, and tri-colored. In the past NASD’s produced by Night Eyes Farms successfully competed in agility and flyball and were an excellent size for visits to assisted living establishments. They are protective of their property and have a natural herding instinct.
We currently have four puppies that were born on September 22nd. Furthermore, one puppy will be made available at a notable discount to a selected evaluation home, with this opportunity exclusively extended to residences in Southern California or families who have previously acquired one of our puppies. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any more information. If you purchased a Native American Shepherd from me in the late 1990s or early 2000, please reach out, as I would love to place a puppy with you at no charge.
